Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I am a born and raised Calgarian, and when I'm not behind the camera I love spending time with my husband and our two boys.
Photography is my passion and for the last decade I have enjoyed every moment behind the camera, meeting new people and continually improving my skills. My main areas of focus are Headshot and Portrait Photography.
I feel like my why is approaching photography through the lens of a Social Worker. My formal training is not in the world of photography but it’s in the world of studying and understanding people. I started with a B.A in Psychology then moved into Social Work through the BSW program at the U of C and I have spent the last 20 years in Calgary working as a Social Worker. I have honed my interpersonal skills over the years, and believe that this is my most important skill as a photographer. I have always loved photography and have early memories of waiting for my mom to return from Black’s photography after developing a role of film.
More recently, as a Headshot photographer, I have joined a few photography communities on different social medial platforms and I am always amazed at how the leading topic on these forums is lighting and camera settings, only the technical aspects of using a camera. As a result I have viewed many images that are technically well lit, or in sharp focus, yet the expression on the subject or the tension in their body reveals they are uncomfortable. In my opinion these photos can never be perfect.
For me, the magic happens when I have a connection with my client; when we are having fun. They are seeing the images in real time and begin to trust me and the process and what continues to be captured are authentic photos that are beautiful and infused with a wonderful energy that is infectious!
